I personally don't know why you need optical stabilization or vibration control or whatever you want to call it if you are using a Pentax body. The in camera shake reduction works. I have been able to capture great shots with ridiculously slow shutter speeds, handheld.
OS stabilizes the viewfinder too.

This is where DXO Mark results is inconclusive really...looks like OS version is sharper (not cause it has Image Stabilization, but rather cause it took them 5 more years to perfect it...) but seems to be not in 70-90 range? compared to previous HSM II version. Also chromatic aberrations seems to be worse with old version but vignette is better with old...Also old one gets substantially more light to the sensor, but overall MP image is better with new one (eg sharper) again substantially.
So using only scientific data I could find via google/dxo/etc... I couldn't really tell if it worth to upgrade, that is why it would be nice to hear opinion of the people who has used both (hopefully we have fellow forum members who has experience with both models).

My advice: keep the Sigma 70-200 HSM II, since the AF is good and fast, and optically it is OK, but buy the Sigma lens hood adapter HA 850-01 and add it onto the lens (before the hood) when shooting APS-C. In my experience, it makes a visible difference to the clarity of the lens, particularly when shooting against bright stadium lighting at low angles towards the front of the lens, or even under harsh daylight. Plus it adds to the length of the lens + hood combo, and makes the lens look more impressive.

I have the OS HSM latest version sigma......I find it quite sharp at both ends wide open......a real keeper......worth a $500 upgrade...Tough call...I did pay about $300 more at the time over the older model....glad I did.

Thanks for reply...
I guess it is tough call. At least for me, but seeing the numbers is confusing, cause on APSC there seems to be almost no gain in sharpness...and noticeable loss of light sensibility.
Are you shooting with lens OS on or off? Did you get your old HSM II inspected prior to selling it...cause seems like C.R.I.S found tons of problem with mine originally...starting with delayed HSM motor response and up till wrong firmware of the lens itself preventing it properly focusing from 70-76 range wide open...

You probally know about this thread.... https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/246271-sigma-70-200-2-8-lens-club.html

I use the OS on the sigma rather then in camera.... lens has a OS setting for panning which can be usefull. I'm posting a few shots in the thread above as I'm using this lens for this months "single in challenge".
