An official introduction from Quebec city

I've been posting around the forum a bit for the last few months, but yesterday I received my K20D at last, and I felt it was the proper time to correctly introduce myself.

I live in Quebec city, Canada. I'm a PhD student in optics and photonics (hopefully this is my last year as a student...). previously owned Nikon and Canon compacts, and I have an old ME super that hasn't been used a lot for many years (family heirloom, you might say).

I'm glad to be on board!

It will be my pleasure to help with what I do know. My main field of study is remote sensing with a laser (using a telescope), and my masters was with fiber optics, but I did take classes in optical design, light transmission, and stuff useful for a photographer.

If I can contribute a small amount to this community, I will be happy, considering all I'm learning myself on these forums.

I take it you have seen the city then? I do think it's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But then, I live here, so I'm sold in advance

This year is a great year to visit, incodentally. It's the 400th anniversary of the city, and there are events planned all year long. So far, it's been great.

I found while reading various forums that some people have as good an understanding of optics as I do, after many years taking pictures. I just probably undestand the "why" better than some.
