Enjoying new Pentax

Hey all,

After almost 10 years, the old Olympus camera that got me through the births of my two kids just wasn't getting the shots I wanted. I'm from Minnesota and mostly take shots of the family.

So, on almost a whim, I purchased a K-50 and 2 lens kit when a caught an excellent online deal. Ever since, I've been having an grand time taking pics with fantastic detail, impressive colors, and beautiful depth-of-field.

I'm not one to get caught up on brands or be a pixel peeper so I'm not going to have an exacting list of things to expect from a camera. Out of the box, though, I'm stunned at the images it captures. And, it does this while being mostly idiot-proof.

A few days ago, I got my first non-kit lens for an SLR with the DA 40mm F2.8 Limited lens from a fellow Pentaxian. Now, I'm even more impressed with what this "budget" SLR can do.

I look forward to sharing and learning from you all.

I'm a fan of that lens myself. I found one on a deal I couldn't pass up. So now I have to find a way to sell my DA 35 f/2.4... sigh. Welcome to our world.

Welcome to the Forums, I have the K50 too. It is a great little camera that can produce amazing results. I really like the composition and colors on the first shot.

Welcome, I bought the K-30 when it was expensive and added a K-50 when it was cheap, they are nearly identical cameras, cheap price but not a cheap camera. I have used an Olympus E520 some, it was a decent camera too.It was my son's camera, he switched to Pentax to borrow my lenses. The problem with the E-520 was that Olympus abandoned the 4/3 mount for the M4/3 mount, and the lenses you could find were just very overpriced. Compare that scenario to the Pentax, where you can but many old lenses and use them, most without requiring an adapter. Keep having fun!
