Hello from the Land of 10,000 Lakes

My name is Michael Smith (really ) I've been using Canon T Series DSLRs and a Canon G12. I noticed better color coming from Internet pics taken with Pentax cameras and my wife's Pentax K-r.

In short, I found a K50 and a box of lenses on eBay and after seeing the in camera HDR ..... I was sold.

I just got my camera and took it golfing and to the Minnesta State Fair and the results were very Canon like.

It looks like I'll need all the help I can get so I'll be reading voraciously. So thanks in advance.

If anyone has an original K50 instruction manual, I'd be happy to purchase it as one did not come with the camera.

Any way, happy to be here. I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

Hi and welcome!

You can always download the original manuals (and software) for Pentax cameras from ricoh-imaging.com, here is the link to the English manual for the K-50:

Also there is a good review of the camera on the main site: Pentax K-50 Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

Welcome. Pentax camera's are definitely the equal if not better than Canon. It helps using the Sony sensor of course. Canon has been lagging for quite a while.

Post some pictures from Minnesota too. i am sure they will be of some interest for us Australians!

Welcome from Chicago!

You might find the camera's settings have some extra saturation or vibrance dialed in. Set them to Neutral or if you have the Natural setting, use that. You can always add saturation in post-processing.

Welcome from Down Under. I wouldn't necessarily say that you've been on the Dark Side, so let's just say you've moved to the Bright Side of the Road, at least in terms of Dynamic Range.

Speaking of which, let's see some of those newly-minted images, when you're ready, of course.
