36 years with Pentax; now with a K3

Started with Pentax equipment (an MX) before spending 2 years in Africa, doing a lot of wildlife photography. Added an ME super during the 80's.
This equipment served me well in travels throughout the world until 1993 when I went digital with CANON (POWERSHOT S50). Returned to Pentax in 2006 with a K10D - happy to use all my old lenses again - like reuniting with old friends. Last month I bought a K3 body and am climbing the learning curve. But so far, everything is beyond wonderful as I marvel at the control, versatility and quality of images. This is a great camera. Interestingly, even though I have 2 autofocus lenses: the 18-55mm 1:3.5 - 5.6 kit lens that came with the K10D, and the Pentax 50-200 DA 1:4 - 5.6 ED, I use my old manual lenses most of the time - they are faster and produce extremely sharp images. I also use two zooms from the 80's: a SIGMA, and a 1:2.8-4 35-70mm and a Tamron 1:4.5 85-210mm macro - b oth great lenses. I'd still like a fast telphoto prime lens, mainly for bird photography but the $$$ are an obstacle.

love my K-3, and that is coming from a life-long Nikon guy who still shoots with a D800 system.

I love my K3. I shot Nikon and Pentax film cameras and this camera just gets it right. Like my F2a or my PZ-1 there is little I can image being better at this time with this camera in hand.

As for your wish... that's a tall order depending on the speed you need. The most common bird lens I see in the > 300mm thread is the DA* 300 paired with the HD TC 1.4x which nets a 420mm f/5.6 lens. Faster options like the A* 300 f/2.8 are very expensive. Speed and length (big long fast) make for expensive lenses.
