New to Pentax

Hi, I'm new to Pentax and to DSLRs in general and I have a question for the experts. I've ordered a K3 and would like one of these two as the main lens. My choices are the Pentax 16-85 and the new Pentax 24-70. I realize there is a big difference in price and to be honest I'm leaning towards the 16-85 because of price and range.
I would appreciate your opinions.

Andres

I think the 16-85 is the better choice on the K-3. You will want that wide angle at times. 24mm on APS-C will be a bit too tight for many circumstances.

The 24-70 is a made to go on a FF camera. The equivalent on the K-3 would be roughly 16-50mm

Hands down the 16-85. It's intended for an ASP-C such as the K3, while the 24-70 is intended for FF. The 16-85 is an outstanding normal-range zoom, it's only limitation is the relatively modest maximum aperture. IQ is about as good as it gets in a normal range zoom.

For APS-C the 16-85 is the better choice. The 24-70 is made for a FF camera and will be much larger and heavier and expensive. Also, 24mm is not all that wide on APS-C. If you intend to go FF next year and can live without the wide angle focal lengths for now, the 24-70 might work. But for your current camera the 16-85 is the better choice.

I'm not an expert but seeing your question can't ignore it not to answer, 16-85 is just brilliant.
