Morning

Hello, name's Darren and well I've gone and bought a K3.
Why you might ask, well I have an NX3000 and wanted to get into shooting things, but quickly found that camera was really lacking, mostly in focusing or low light performance.
So in steps the K3, the minuted I picked it up, it just felt so right.
Played with the usual suspects, and Canon came to the closest, that was until I held a Pentax.

It's a totally different camera, focuses fast and then some.
Bought just the body, as this time I wanted the right lens for me.
So I went with an 18-250mm Sigma usm, seems to get very good reviews, not the last word in sharpness but I can worry about the primes later on. Those limited editions look gorgeous, already got my eye on the 20-40mm.

Only problem for me now is the steep learning curve, Can't even figure out half of the mode dial let alone anything else.

Oh and I'm from Cornwall.

Welcome Huxley.
Yep. Lots to learn. Take your time and try a couple of new things each time you go out.
Post images here , ask questions here, here is a good place to learn and share.

Welcome, expecting to see stunning Cornish vistas from you real soon.

You've got the kit now... so get out there and get the images.

Kerrowdown is right. We don't see much of Cornwall, and we know you have a great coastline.

Certainly do, and being local I know a few places people won't

Just got a lot of learning ahead of me, the Pentax is way beyond anything I've used.
Is there any good guides well about anything?
I'm guessing a pair of fast cards would be in order.
I have Tehidy woodland near me, plenty of tree rats to practice on.

Hello Huxley, welcome on board. I changed from Nikon/Pana to Pentax with the K3. I still have to lookup the manual once in a while, but each time it is worthwhile. On the subject of tree-rats, perhaps ask Otis for tips...

If you read the manual cover to cover your understanding of the camera will greatly improve.

Welcome to the forum and have fun!

Also you can get the manual in PDF form, you can put it on your phone (or tablet) and can search words and save a lot of weight then carrying the paper version.

Well I've had a play, albeit with no lens and I'm getting a good feel for it.
Things feel quite intuitive and in the right place.
I'll get to programming the user modes asap, I can see that saving a lot of hassle in the future.
One question, I've noticed you can push the shutter on/off switch further across.
Is this to hold the mirror open?

Welcome to a fellow Pentaxian from the UK!

Regarding a book to help I found the e-book recommended by Uncle Vanya to be really useful (I've got the K-S2)

Regards

I think you might be right.
I've had bit of a play and it's a lot to take in, but I'm slowly getting there.
Leaving it on full manual to force myself to learn the thing.
Fingers crossed the weather holds tomorrow.
