Pentax k-s1- how to take picture

Hi everyone. Today i received my pentax and i obviously i cant shoot, i dont know why. I put the lens according to the manual. My question is : should i do some changes or settings before i do the first shot and can i turn my display on, i mean i want to see the subject during i take the shot. I hope to help me because otherwise i have to return it.

Checklist:

Did you insert the battery? And in the correct direction? Does the battery have a charge?

Did you insert a memory card?

Turn on the camera?

Format the memory card?

Remove the lens cap?

Which lens - is it the kit 18-55 or another?

Assuming battery fully charged - you have to do that when you get it and it takes loads of hours - and in the camera correctly, when you turn it on you should see the rear screen light up - does that happen?

Check the mode dial. Picture modes like M, Tv, Av, TAv, P will allow you to take still pictures.

Charging is variable and while recommended it is likely not a problem if you made video.

Start slow.

Step one find the quick start guide. Page 24 explains the way to take your first picture.

Note that the power switch has a movie mode. You want ON not movie.

Yes.... Formatting the card puts an empty file on the card for the camera to put the photo's in. When you reformat later to clear the photo's it deletes the shots that are on it.
When I got my K-30 I charged the battery a couple of hours then inserted it took a couple of shots just to check the camera out. I then took the battery out and charged it over night. I think the batteries are send fully depleted. So it takes a while for the first charge. After that first charge it usually only takes about an hour to recharge the battery if I run it down to where the camera will not work.

Definitely charge the battery, format the SD card, and put the camera in an auto mode to begin with. You should have a button on it that says "LV" which you would want to push to put it in live view, allowing you to take pictures using the screen on the back rather than the viewfinder.

I think you turned the power switch too far. If you turn it one notch it is in still photo mode, the next notch is the movie mode. Just set the camera in P mode and you should be able to take a photo.

Good morning, yes everything was helpful. Now i can take pictures. Thank you very much. Just one more question about the zoom option with 18 mm lens how much is it and how i can activate it. There is some number 52 on the lens which means 52x or?
