Spotmatic F and Vivitar Lens

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and would love some help.

I have a Pentax Spotmatic F and it's absolutely gorgeous.

My question is I inherited some older Vivitar M42 Mount lens and was wondering if they work with the Spotmatic?

I was told the lens will work but not allow open aperture metering and I will need to stop down - not sure what that means.

Any help/education would be awesome.

Thanks in advance,
John

The M42 lens will mount on the Spotmatic, but it needs to have a pin in the back of the mount that will allow the lever in the camera to stop the lens down. If the lens has an Auto/Manual switch on it, it will stop down when the switch is marked as Auto. When it is set to manual, the lens stops down as you turn the aperture ring.

Thank you. 1 of the lens has the pin the other 2 do not.
Now I understand.
Thanks in advance.
