Hello all!!! I'm new to this forum but not to Pentax. I bought my first Pentax 35mm SLR around 1978 out of a pawn shop at Ft. Hood TX. It's a black meterless Pentax SL and yes, I still have it. It's one tough camera. In 1981 I was at Pathfinder School at Ft. Benning GA and did a number of parachute jumps. On one parachute jump my rucksack lowering line broke free and the rucksack fell 200 feet to the ground with the SL inside it. When I recovered the rucksack I expected the SL to be in pieces. Nope, not hurt at all. It worked just fine.
I used Pentax Spotmatics all through the 80's and 90's. At one point I had 12 Spotmatic bodies including two Spotmatic Motor Drive bodies with the 250exp backs. Once the 1.35v mercury batteries dried up I sold them all off except for the black SL and a few lenses - 28mm, 50mm 1/4, and the 105mm.
A couple of years ago I bought another SL body (chrome) and started getting some of my favorite screw-mount lenses back. I now have the 20mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm f/1.4, and the 105mm - all are SMC 3 pin.
The black SL has been highly modified over the years: Nikon P screen, Ritz rugertized covering, Pentax LX lower strap lugs, and Leica screw OVER cable release.
The chrome SL has a Pentax K1000 plastic tip film advance lever.
I decided to get a couple of ESII bodies as they use silver oxide batteries. I now have a nice pair of ESII bodies completely overhauled by Eric.
I also use Olympus OM-1/OM-2 film cameras and Leica/Nikon/Contax rangefinder cameras. I primarily use black & white film. My film of choice is Ilford HP-5.
