Another from the Chicago area

Hello all! Just bought a used Spotmatic with 55mm f/2, so now I can officially say I'm a Pentax guy! Have been picking up 1970's vintage SLRs for about three months.

I started out, in 1972 with a Praktica Super TL kit. After it was stolen in the late 80's, I switched to Nikon using an N6006 for the next decade or so. Moved into the digital era with a Sony Mavica (yes, with floppy-drive). During that transition period, in May 2002, I purchased a Nikon F100, which is a very fine film camera. I entered the Nikon digital world with a D100 (Oct. 2002), and sold the N6006 in 2004, but opted to keep the F100. In Oct. 2005, I bought a D2x (gave the D100 to a relative) which I used until last October, when I bought a Nikon D810. I have a good collection of Nikkor and Sigma glass.

So that's the film to digital story. Now I'm busy with the digital return to film chapter.

Last November I spied another Praktica Super TL, like that of my youth, on eBay upon which I placed a winning bid ($30). Then, later that month, I found a Mamiya/Sekor 500DTL body which I bid and won for about $10. Later, I found a 55mm f/1.8 Mamiya/Sekor normal lens for it, for $20. Early in December, I found a Konica Autoreflex T body for $5, and shortly thereafter found a 57mm f/1.4 Hexanon for $41. Near Christmas, I picked up a Konica T3 for $11.50 and I'm awaiting a Hexanon AR 52mm f/1.8 to mount on it which I had the winning bid for $10.50. In late December, I picked up the Honeywell/Pentax Spotmatic and 55mm f/2 for $11. I've registered the S/N for camera and lens. All this is as much fun as a big Powerball lottery! Winning that would be nice, too!

99% of my photos go through the D810 & D2x. When spring arrives, I'll probably break out the film cameras for initial trials, and see which ones still really work!

Galleries of my stuff can be seen here.

Welcome aboard! I'm in East Dundee, taking pictures of things along the Fox River etc.
I have a new K3II so we'll see how that compares with pictures from my long-serving K5 this year.

Welcome to the forum.... as one who could have bought a Spotmatic back in 67, I'm hearing the Out Of Limits Theme playing in the background. Rod Serling is on my black and white TV saying " A man is transported back to an era where he has a chance to buy a camera he passed on for a cheaper model first time around."

Yes, at the age of 15, I so badly wanted a Mamiya/Sekor 500 or 1000 DTL. But, in my price range I went with the Praktica. Those all metal, mechanical, TL metering cameras were built like tanks! I find it fun to fool with these "antiques," especially when compared to today's DSLR technology. Gives you an appreciation of how far we've come! Cheers!
