Good Morning from Germany!

Hello fellow pentax-users,

I am a German law-student. Photography has been my favorite hobby since I got an old analog camera from my father at the age of 6.
Last christmas, I gifted myself the new K3 II after using the Samsung GX10 for almost 10 years. Obviously, I'm pretty amazed by the new camera, the increase in quality is huge! I'm already deeply in love with the K3 II. For shooting, I use a Tamron 70-300mm that I bought for the GX10, the Schneider-Kreuznach D-Xenon 18-55mm kit-lens that came with the GX10, an old SMC Pentax-M 50mm 1,4 (my favorite) and the Pentax-DA 35mm 2,4. So overall all pretty "budget"-lenses.

Kind regards,

Michi!

Hi from Frankfurt (am Main), and welcome to the forum.

My student times ended decades ago (electrical engineering and, in between, 2 years of Mathematics); most of that knowledge has vanished, as I worked on quite another field, and I am retired since 2012
I got my first camera only at the age of 11. In 1958, photography in Germany was still a very expensive hobby, and owning a camera at my age was really an exception. I graduated to a Agfa Silette II (1962), Exa500+VX1000 after my time with the army, and later I switched first to a Pentax ME Super, then a Super A.

Initially I intended to wait with starting digital till DSLRs would have reached 12MP sensors, and hopefully would have seen a significantly price drop.
A 12 MP sensor would have offered about the resolution I was used to with the color films of the seventies (they got much better in the last stages of film).

But then I didn't want to wait any longer, and I grabbed a K200D quite cheap when production of this model had just ended (it has the same sensor as your GX10).
I would have preferred a k20D, but at that point it was 60% more expensive, so 10MP had to be enough. Now-a-days I rarely do big printings, so the disadvantage is just that cropping is really limited. I think I will go for a used K-5 some time this year.
For the K-3, i am afraid I would have to replace both my computers as well.

Welcome from Chicago!

My Christmas present to me was a K3II - which seems a marked improvement over my K5.

Welcome to the forums. I have a K-3 II also. It is an excellent camera. I use it currently with my Sigma 150-500.
