Hello from Massachusetts! I love the Pentax forums and the real community sense you get on here. After my Nikon D3100 went for an unauthorized swim, I spent months researching cameras (I'm a recovering History major) which brought me here quite a few times. Obviously, I was rather swayed by Pentax's weatherproofing. Besides that, the pure iso sensitivity can't be beat which makes for detailed shadows. My parents recently gave me a K-S2 (Best. Christmas. Ever.) and I couldn't be happier.

Welcome, and enjoy your new camera! What lens(es) did you get with it?

(If you should ever wish to expand that complement, believe me, there will be plenty of people willing to advise you!)

Welcome!

Pentax Forums is the home of many groups that cover many countries and interests.

I may be a bit biased, but I think this is the friendliest of all the groups.

I look forward to seeing your wicked good photos.

Welcome to the forum, a WR Pentax doesn't necessarily mean it will survive your swimming lessons either, so be careful with her...

Thanks for all the welcoming comments! I have the standard 18-50mm kit lens. Once I find a job though I will look for an old manual prime lens like the SMC Penatax-M 50mm F1.7 that I've read a bunch about.

I'm glad someone mentioned this. The Weather sealing on your Pentax camera will NOT prevent damage if it is submerged.. even if using a WR lens. There is no submerge'pressure rating for any Pentax DSLRs.

The Kit lens is a good one, especially since its Weather Resistant construction allows one to take pictures in bad weather. :

Thanks for the advice. This time around I will always make sure my bag is zippered up all the way. Learned that the hard way.
