Hello,
Lifelong Pentax user from the Netherlands here. I grew up using my fathers and grandfathers Pentax film SLRs (still have the K1000, ME and ME Super here, recently bought a KX as an 'upgrade' to the K1000) and didn't go digital until 2 years ago. That's when I invested in a Fuji mirrorless system (X-Pro1) and later on a cheap second hand Pentax K10D. Went mirrorless because it gave me a very portable system, I like Fuji's IQ and their lens selection (currently have the 18, 35, 56 and cheapo 55-230 which is a surprisingly nice and light lens for hobbyist wildlife/outdoors stuff).
I've been occasionally reading these forums for a couple of years but my interest in the K-3 II and upcoming K-1 FF made me finally register. My Fuji system, while it still serves me well, is starting to feel older and I'm torn between upgrading to the X-Pro2 or soon to be announced X-T2
or going back to my 'roots', Pentax. I'd appreciate if this didn't turn into a brand X vs Pentax discussion though, because
I know how passionate some can get here when it comes to their brands
Anyway, over the years I have amassed a fair collection of mostly K-mount legacy lenses which along with their history is what keeps me interested and loyal to Pentax. In the collection are, among others, my favorites the 50/1.7 SMC-A, Sigma Mini-Wide 28/2.8, Vivitar 400/5.6 and well over a dozen other lenses. I still use the 50 and 28 a lot on my K1000 and now KX and occasionally the K10D. The 400 I use adapted to my Fuji occasionally or on the K10D to take photos of the moon. The K10D is mostly an outdoors macro camera for me and usually has a lens reverse attached on it, either directly or with additional extension tubes (I have a nice 100mm tube) or bellows.
I've long been wanting to go further in astrophotography and the K3II with its built in mount seems ideal for that. I'm also considering getting an iOptron Skytracker but seeing as I'm in the market for a new camera body anyway, I figured I might as well look into bodies that offer some form of internal tracking. I'm not serious enough about astro to invest into it
a lot. Yet, anyway.
When I'm not shooting macro or astro, I'm mostly a nature landscape/outdoors photographer and when I have to, product photographer (I am a pro cabinet/furniture maker). I have certain goals in photography and buy gear based on those goals.
Hope I'll enjoy my time here!
