Hello!

Hello All,
My name is Alex and I'm fairly new to photography and am planning on buying a pentax as my first proper camera.

Hi Alex. Welcome to the forum. There are many good camera bodies and lenses to choose from, so please don't hesitate to ask any questions if you need any advice. The members here are very helpful like that. Looking forward to seeing some photographs.

The K-3 may be more than you need as a beginner; take a look at this: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/151-pentax-k-30-k-50/261481-pentax-k-50-photos.html; I'm certainly not a beginner, though I probably wouldn't class as a talented amateur, but I got a K-50, and it's way more camera than I need. There are functions in that camera that I haven't figured out yet. I've had to read the 370 page instruction book several times. More important, get good quality Kaf type lenses, the cost of the body is a small part of what you'll need, and if you decide to upgrade later, you can still use your lenses.

I'm not usually a person to go with entry level equipment for fear of out growing it quickly and having to spend more money on an upgrade.
The lense that I'm going to get will be a 18 - 135mm WR lense. I feel like it will give me an all around option so I can run around and shoot almost anything with decent ease.
