Newbie From Hokkaido Japan

Hi everyone, I am delighted to be a member here on the Pentax forums, I am a beginner, getting interested in photography and on the verge of stepping up to a DSLR camera.

I have been researching what camera would be good for me to start out with and within my budget. I thought I had decided on the Nikon 40D, but do not like the limitations with the lenses, so my next choice was the Pentax K100D, it is a little over my budget but I think I can work it out.

I have read great reviews for this camera, and before I make my final decision, I wanted to see what the people here on the Pentax forums were saying.

Thanks and look forward to participating in some discussions here!

Welcome Chamel. Must be nice to be from such a historical place like the Hokkaido - of course made famous to us westerners thru the book Shogun.

I PERSONALLY did not like the K100D. Although many did not, there were some of us who had problems with the batteries. I got rid of it FAST and bought a second istD and did not regret it.

If you do decide on getting a K100D you should make sure that it is the "Super" version. The K100D Super will support SDM as well screwdrive autofocus lenses. I bought a K100D Super as my first DSLR and I am very happy with my choice. It will allow me to learn more about DSLR photography while supporting new lenses. As far as batteries go I had been using Sanyo Eneloop batteries in my household for a while and just used them in my camera and have had no problems. There are a couple threads on batteries on this board if you search them out that have more details.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with whatever camera you choose!
