Using Pentak K1000 lense with my new KS-2

I recently bought a new Pentax KS-2 with just the basic lens.
However, I have telephoto and wide angle lenses from my old K1000
I was successful in installing the telephoto on the KS-2 but am unable to get the camera to shoot a picture
Is there a setting I am missing or is it that the old SLR lenses will not work on the new DLR KS-2 ?

Hello bettycan,

yes you must activate the Option that the manual Aperture-Ring is activated. After this you can also try to use the Option "Catch-In" enabled. With this option the manual focus will shot if the spot-meter is in focus.

Make sure that the back of the lens that you're trying to use is bright clean metal and not anodized or painted. This caused me problems with an old 3rd party lens. My K5-II basically didn't know if a lens was attached or not and would not control the aperture lever properly. I still use tinfoil at the lens mount to fix this (which I need to do something about).

What fault is happening when you try to take a picture?

Hope your new K-S2 will serve you well. This is very nice camera, and works flawlessly with my legacy lenses: Pentax A 50mm/1,7 and M series macro 50mm/4.

I have selected both your videos and must confess my ignorance. Nothing in my menu matches what is in the tutorials
I have Button Customization
which leads me to Raw /Fx button or AF/AE-l Button
When I select AF/AE-L button I get
AF1 enable AF1
When I select AF1 Enable AF1 I get
AF1 Enable AF1 AF is performed when the AF/AE-L button is pressed
AF2 Enable AF2 AF with shutter release button is disabled so AF is performed with the AF/AE-L button
AF Cancel AF AF with shutter release button is disabled while the AF/AE-L button is pressed
AE-L AE lock Locks the exposure value when the AF/AE-L button is pressed

Not sure where else to look or which of these to select

Thanks

Bertwert, please ignore my previous message.
I finally found the customization menu and selected option 28 and enabled the using aperture ring option. (option 16 didn't do anything)
I successfully used my K1000 Bayonet lens even though I did not have to install an aperture ring

Thanks very much. Now I will shoot a few pics to see if the quality is as good as using the new lens with the new camera. btw, fyi my old K1000 is still in great shape and works beautifully
