El Paso, Texas.... hello

My name is NEF and I'm happy to see such a HUGE and ACTIVE forum of users. I shoot for fun and have used Nikon, Canon and recently Fuji X cameras.... I was about to plunk down a a chunk of change on some nice Fuji Primes when I by pure accident came across a blurp on the Pentax K3.

I was so impressed by what I read I placed my order on hold for the Fuji XF 56 f/1.2 and 90mm f/2 and for almost half of what that would have cost ordered a K3 with grip and the following lenses.... DA 50mm f/1.8, the limited HD/DA 21mm f/3.2 and the limited HD/DA 70mm f.2.4 lenses. I've only just started to run them through their paces, but have been happy with their resulting images.

I'd like to compliment my K3 with a WR zoom lens and have been debating between the 18-135mm and the 16-85mm lens to meet those needs. I do a fair amount of hiking and the all weather reputation of the Pentax K3 was a selling point for me. I still enjoy my pair of Fuji X-e1's, one with a Fuji XF 18-50mm lens and the other with the excellent Fuji XF 55-200mm telephoto, but I've been so happy with my new Pentax and more so with the breadth and enthusiasm of you so called

I spent a couple of years in your part of the country finishing up my degree (New Mexico State - in Las Cruces). It's a beautiful area in my opinion. Great climate, wide open views, and great food (I'm still addicted to green chile).

Can't wait to see some of your photos!

Welcome aboard! I have an 18-135 which has served me well. I think the extra reach would be useful hiking, depending on the terrain and your subjects. It's been a good lens on my K5 and continues to be so on the K3II.

The images from the 16-85 look really good though, it's a tough decision.

the DA21mm is among my favorite lenses, though. It's a lot of fun to use, and offers lots of contrast in its images.
