I am Ian Sannar, greetings and stuff

Hello, Pentax Forums. I am Ian Sannar. I was drawn here mainly by the discussion of and sale of vintage lenses. I don't own or use a film camera but would like to use some old lenses on a new canon camera. You get the idea.

Very, very new to photography. Got the camera for video projects and haven't used it for stills until a couple months ago.

Have a nice day.

Hello, and welcome! We're a friendly bunch here, and will do our best to make you welcome.

One piece of advice, though - some of us have mixed feelings about Canon shooters adapting older Pentax lenses. Some of them make rather drastic and irreversible modifications to allow clearance of the mirrors of some Canon cameras, which ruins them for future use on Pentax bodies, and I'm sure you can understand us having reservations about that. All that being said, some of us are well versed in the ins and outs of this and can advise you on which combinations are likely to avoid these issues.

Welcome to the forum, just don't mention any acts of barbarism.

Welcome to the forum. If you want to go strictly manual then the Takumar lenses work with a simple M42-Canon EOS adapter. No focus confirmation or auto diaphragm. I've done this with a 1D Mk II N, 1D Mk III, and 6D with excellent results. If you want to maintain the lens' value don't make any mods. Just my $0.02.

Thanks, wtlwdwgn. I am currently looking at some Takumar lenses listed for sale on this forum. From the short amount of time I've spent googling on vintage lens/new camera combinations the Takumar seems to be a good choice as far as compatibility goes. And thank you all for the welcome.

I turn to the vintage lenses because they're cheaper than the new ones, and my camera can't autofocus during video anyway so might as well have a manual lens if it saves a couple hundred bucks. Plus, my inner hipster is drawn to the concept. I do wonder about the focus confirmation though, for stills. I've seen adapters that claim to do this. What are adapters you would all reccomend?

Again, thank you all.
