New to the Forum

Hello everyone who love Pentax.

When I was young my Father gave me his Baldi 29 camera (which I still have) and a light meter and said there you go, that was the early 70's. By the mid 70's I wanted my own, so I bought an SP1000, which got stolen, replaced by a K1000 (stolen too) and finally a second K1000 (which I still have). Photography kinda went by the wayside and digital was coming around and I found a great deal on an IST D but never really mastered it until I took a basic Digital Photography Class at my local Community College and wha la, I am back at it again.

I have been studying the current Pentax offerings and fell in love with the K-3II, so I just ordered it. Lenses will be my next interest, so that is why I am here.

Can't wait to get my new K-3II and get at it. I am a pretty big car fanatic, so that is what most of my photos are.

Looking forward to discussion.

Kerrowdown, it was like being thrown in, but I learned the basics as to what to change to make the pics go the way I wanted. I still take pics with it, the 120 format is way cool in photo shop, you can do SO much more.
CSA the K-3II will be in next week, can't wait. I have not bought a lens yet but will use the one from my ISTD until I find the "one" I want to start with. I still have my 300mm telephoto and I have several other manual lenses. Thinking of a 55-300 and a 50mm or I would love a 70mm prime, but I have been loving the versatility of my 18-55 from the ISTD, so I am still up in the air.
Patrick9 Yes I do have a 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT that I hope to racing in Stock Class Drag Racing. I also own my Father's 1965 Pontiac Tempest which is a Survivor and was recently judged 380 of 400 points. Got a 4 page spread in the Smoke Signals (National Pontiac) magazine, and I took the pics. My Pentax was getting dirty so I borrowed my wife's Cannon, turned out nice, but I will do better.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the K-3II - you must be excited! It is a superb camera - really, absolutely superb. I was at a major photography show over the weekend and tried so many different high-end cameras out, and I can honestly say that the K-3II is one of the very best built cameras available right now. And the image quality - when using good lenses - is just fantastic. You're going to have a lot of fun!

Welcome aboard! I just upgraded to the K3II last December. Can't wait until bee season when I can put it through its paces.

Thanks for all the "welcomes". I have gotten an update that the camera should be in Friday. Can't wait.

I usually shoot cars Drag racing from the stands using the 300mm. It puts me at about the optimum point of the cars travel (wheelstands). I am looking forward to the auto focus capabilities since my older age has me slipping in the focusing dept. I will be looking for a recommendation for a good (clear and smooth operating) lens, maybe a 55-300mm. I can still use my manual focus lenses but I might as well take advantage of what I am buying.

Great to talk with so many Pentax folks.

Steve

PS, I am also planning to "test" the video part of it too.
