Hello from a resurrected Pentaxian in Ohio

Thought I would get around to saying "hi" to the group, since I joined in January. I have been a Pentaxian since I purchased my K1000 at age 16 (without revealing too much, let's just say that was over 30 years ago). When the whole world went digital, and all my friends started purchasing overpriced prosumer Nikons and Canons that they only used on "auto" mode, I stuck with film. While that sounds very nostalgic, the learning curve of switching to digital is real. The other problem was, no one knew how to use my camera so I rarely show up in a photo prior to the year 2000. Ha!

Mastering exposure and composition can be accomplished with film (I liken it to learning to drive with a stick-shift rather than an automatic, and I highly recommend it), yet I found myself behind the eight-ball when it came to RAW, digital post processing, and some of the unique challenges of digital, like action combined with low lighting, which parents understand is a daily reality.

Purchasing my K-3 this past fall changed everything--and my love of photography has been resurrected. In fact, I have become obsessed. While I enjoyed my K100D, I never really challenged myself to do better, or to fully utilize the tools at my disposal. And because local stores lacked Pentax equipment, I initially limited myself to a kit lens and one wide coverage zoom, and was never really satisfied like I was with film. A purchase of a Limited lens along with a fast zoom began to put spark in my step again. My only regret is selling all of my film equipment (two cameras and a gorgeous collection of "M" lenses) to a film student back when my children were little. I made the awful decision out of fatigue and the assumption I would never have time to perfect those lenses on my AF camera. Ugh!

I have turned to the forums here many times over the years, so here I am making it official. Have already had some positive gear transactions and the more I learn, the more I want to know. Being behind the camera has brought me so much joy (again) that I have set a personal goal to start making money at it--even if only to fund more goodies on my wish list.

Thanks for the site - looking forward to knowing you better! ~Angie

Welcome!

This is a nice and interesting introduction. It seems that even though the digital learning curve might slow you down a bit, with your experience you will surely be able to let your creativity speak with your new tools.

Enjoy the forum and post some pictures!
