Just bought at K2

Hi all,

Just bought myself an analog camera again. Besides an Exakta Exa 1A, I now also own an Asahi Pentax K2 complete with a lot of lenses and an original camera bag. Does anybody know if the serial number can tell you something about the year of production?
It's 7081459.

Thanks! Roel

Serial numbers of older Pentax film cameras don't really give us a sense of when they were made. There are databases here trying to make sense of patterns, but I really can't tell you the exact year your camera was made. I can, however, tell you the K2 cameras were made from 1975-1977.

Here's more info about your camera: K2

And here's a nice copy of the manual in PDF:

The K2 is clearly one of my favorit manual film camera. Especially the K2 DMD. If the odd iso-setting wheel is stiff, don't be afraid to take it appart, clean and lubricate. I've done it on two boddies without problem. That is otherwise what people typically complain about. What lenses did you get with it?

Ah, the K2. Those were the days. Actually nights in the darkroom. I had mine from 1976 from the time I arrived at Torrejon AFB in Spain (Sept 1976) until it was stolen from my home in St. Louis about Oct 1980. I was never without that camera nearby for those 4 years. I had the black body with the 50mm and 200mm lenses and could change them out in about 5 seconds flat. I started college in 1980 and am now winding up a terrific career as a telecom and electronics engineer and am now ready to retire. My hobby will now be photography once again, I'm sure my K1 with the 15-30 24-70 70-200 lens set will not be far out of reach beginning tomorrow when it all arrives. The only difference will be my nights will be spent in Lightroom rather than the darkroom of the past (I found my negatives and contact sheets in the basement not long ago). I'm looking forward to the challenge of lightroom and NIK, exploring the way all aspects of darkroom photography have been reduced to numbers. Starting tomorrow I will once again be the dweeb with the camera. I can't wait!

Welcome to Pentax Forums Roel.

There is a serial number database here: Pentax K2 Serial Numbers - Pentax Serial Number Database -

And reviews here: Pentax K2 - Pentax Manual Focus Film SLRs - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications

Of course you can post your question about the serial number here, and perhaps someone there may chime in with helpful information: Pentax Film SLR Discussion -

Thanks for alle then replies! On Wikipedia there's mention of production until 1980, but maybe that's the K2DMD?

I've bought the set with following lenses:
- Pentax-M 1:2/50mm
- Pentax 1:1.8/55mm
- Pentax-M Zoom 1:2.8~4/40~80mm
- Pentax-M 1:3.5/135mm

I've been photographing for two days now and alle seems to work. Only the automatic seemed to mismatch, it indicated a shutter speed of 1/60 but used 2 or 3 seconds. As soon as I manually selected 1/60 it seemed to work fine. Anybody experienced that already in automatic mode?

Next week I will have my first film developed, so that's the moment of truth 😉
