Adirondackmike-just joined

I am seeing about buying a Pentax DSLR ( that's why I joined ) and am looking at a new K-50 or a good used K-7 or above at around the
same price. I'm retired so price IS an option.
Any advice from someone experienced in either of these cameras would be greatly appreciated.
I've been "lurking" around this forum for years, just have'nt made the leap. ( I had a Panasonic DMC ZS-6 point and shoot, got stolen ).
I know, but it was cheap, and I didn't have time for pictures when I was working.

Anyway, thanks for any advice,

AdkMike

Look for a used K-5 or K-5 II. Much better camera than the K-7. If you buy a K-50 make sure to get an extended warranty. They have an issue with the aperture control that usually doesn't appear until the warranty is expired.

And welcome to the forums from CNY.

Welcome aboard! I would avoid the K7 if I was you and look into the K5. The K7 is a great camera, but the K5 is cheap these days and a much better camera in my opinion.

Welcome to the forums. I have done quite a bit of hiking in the High Peaks (Adirondack). Good luck with whatever camera you get.

I just ordered a K-5 ll on Amazon through Adorama. I have on old lens from a K-1000 to make sure it works, and then I'll be off.
I have to say that there was no info on "what's in the box", so to speak, but Adorama's customer service was great about getting
the "comes with" info to me on a holiday weekend. Thanks, Adorama, and thanks to you guys who's advice convinced me to go
big, instead of with the K-50, which I almost did.
I know I'll be happier knowing I upgraded to a better camera that Adorama considers to be in "excellent" condition.

You'll like that camera, the K5 series is a real workhorse.
Remember the Marketplace here when it comes time for more purchases.

Welcome from Chicago!

Congrats! I've had both.. the K-5 II is such a stunner comparatively... 14-bit RAW and loads of dynamic range for those landscapey shots. Plus it is more sturdy than the K-50... great for taking into the wilds.

Welcome! I have a used K-5 and just love it. If price is really an issue, I don't see how you can do better for the money.

Price is no longer an issue with the deal I found on Amazon, fulfilled by Adorama.
Judging by Adorama's cust. service, camera should be as described...excellent.

And that would be me. LOL!

Welcome to the forum, Mike! You made a good choice with the K5 ll. My K5 is going on 5 yrs. old now but still works great. It's a very rugged camera and well suited to our Adirondack environment. They made some upgrades and improvements on the version you bought.. I still use my old film era lenses but as I've aged and my eyesight isn't what it once was, I rely on the newer AF lenses. Anyhow, welcome and I hope your new gear works out for you.
