Hi From CT!

Hello All,

About 3 1/2 years ago I purchased my first DSLR, after a road trip through the American Northwest, which was a Pentax K-30. The Pentax brand was on the recommendation of my father-in-law who is an incredible amateur photographer and has been using Pentax for over 30 years. At the time, the K-30 was about 6 months old and had pretty good reviews and it was within my price range.

In the last 3 1/2 years I've earned 7 blue ribbons and 1 red ribbon. Now I realize that the equipment doesn't make the photographer but it certainly helps. I've used only kit lenses up until this point and have recently upgraded to the Pentax K-1 including the purchase of the HD Pentax-D FA 28-105 mm lens.

I'm hoping this upgrade will help me continue to improve my photography and win more ribbons and eventually allow me to sell more of my photographs.

I focus primarily on landscape photography, specifically sunsets and waterfalls. My favorite place in the world is Montana and the landscape there is unmatched IMHO and is a source for incredible photos.

To all in its coverage area, I reccomend the website sunsetwx.com, which forecasts quality of sunrises and sunsets.

Hi Kris. Welcome to the Pentax forums. You are correct about equipment not making the photographer, but the better gear is much more fun to use.
