Greetings All

Hi there, everybody!

I'm new to the Forum, but not so new to Pentax. I cut my photographic teeth on a K1000 way back in the days of yore, and have be shooting a *ist DS for the past good-long-while. Just recently I picked up a K-3 ii and Holy Heck have strides been made in the DSLR world over the last 11 years!

Up next is dipping my toes in the "non-legacy" glass pool and seeing what the waters like. Good times ahead!

-Matt

Is that before or after you've tried the legacy glass?

Thanks. I have a set of Pentax-M & Takumar lenses that I've been using since the film days. But the K-3 ii vs *ist DS comparison has me wondering if cameras have improved this much in just over a decade, how far have lenses come in three?

Sorry can't really help as I only use my "Ladies", whom are all legacy glass on my Pentax system.

Welcome, Matt. Have a look at the database section for user ratings and some forum staff reviews of lenses. Some of the old timers work pretty well. I'm still using old glass as well as new. My oldest lens is the well regarded SMC Takumar 55/1.8 in screw mount. Then follow two M lenses, both bought used, a 400/5.6 and a 100/4 macro. At the top of the beginner forum there are detailed instructions for using the older lenses on the newer DSLRs.

My DA lenses are the DA 12-24/4 for landscape and indoor work. A lovely lens even fi a bit pricey. I think it is well worth the extra few dollars for the distortion control compared to other super wides. My DA* 16-50/2.8 is a *star* in my book. It is also my only weather proof lens. The newest acquisition is the DA 55-300/4-5.8. Inexpensive, but surprisingly good. I really don't care much for the variable aperture, but for the price, no worries.

Welcome aboard. One of my old lenses a SMC 55mm f1.8, still finds it's way onto DSLR's. It is too good to ignore.
