Looking at a K3. Like new condition with shutter count just under 2k. Priced at $600. Should I go for it or keep looking around?

Forgot to mention that it comes with all original contents and a 30 day warranty.
It's only $699 new at B&H right now $99 extra for a brand new item with full manufacturer warranty is worth it, IMHO...

Yeah that's a wonderful point. Seems like the decision has been made. I'll be ordering a new K3 soon.

Shop around a little more. Pentax is bringing out another model. A k3 will be less costly soon

The only announced camera is the K-70. A replacement for the K3 II would probably be announced this fall at Photokina if it is released this year. The K-3 is still a better camera than the K-70, unless you really want a flip screen, built-in WiFi, and compatibility with KAF4 lenses.

I am really considering the idea of waiting, but I'd like to have a purchased a camera by the end of August.

K-3 seems like it'd fit my wants/needs more, and as you said it surpasses the K-70. Thanks for the advice.

One thing worth bearing in mind - and accepting as a given - is that there will always be a new model with a few new features "just around the corner", whether it's a few months or a couple of years. Prices for current models fluctuate in the intervening period, and it's almost impossible to accurately judge when they will be at their very lowest point. If you buy a particular model of camera soon, it could be a little cheaper in 3 - 6 months, but if you wait then you'd have missed out on that time familiarising yourself with and enjoying the camera. So, if you find a model that suits you now, it's not - in my view - worth worrying much about possible changes in price; better to bite the bullet, get the camera and start enjoying it. So what if it's $50 - $100 cheaper in a few months? Some other members here, quite sensibly, would look at that as "rental cost" (and I tend to agree with them)

The K-3 is a fine camera, and my main workhorse. If a Pentax camera is in your future, I virtually guarantee you will be delighted and satisfied with a K-3

Welcome, I always say to folk... once you've got your camera body, bolt the lenses and see how you get on.

Any short comings of the lenses or lack of focal lengths will some become apparent, then go buy the lens you need.

The k-3 deal you mentioned for $600.00 might be a very good deal. It is surely a body I would recommend. Just a great camera. I wasn't advising that you wait for and get the new K-70, there is no bargain in that. BUT!! I do think that the price of a k-3 could be a little less in the next few weeks, due to the "New-Model- Release.Other than the K-S1, I believe all of Pentax from & including the K-5 on til now, are absolutely FINE TOOLS. And you should learn to shoot them in MANUAL mode with your old lenses from the start.... Then, very selectively, get full auto and primes AdNauseum.K-5 is good K-5II is better(slightly) K-3 is really good, K-3II is slightly Better... There are 4 camera models that are all Simply terriffic. K-1.....is a differant beast altogether. Keep your stick on the ice, shoot often, we're all in this together ,,we are all rooten for ya. K-5 to K-3II, ya can't go wrong. Let us know what you do. RJM
