Long time listener, first time caller!

Hi everybody!

Designer, currently in midwest USA, originally from Finland. Found a cheap used K-5 (no lens) recently in a yardsale, and took out an old Zenit Helios 44k-4 58mm f2 lens from my Chinon SLR, so I'm in business.

Love all the supremely useful info on this site, and figured I might as well sign up and participate in the fun! All those fabulous vintage lens reviews are going to be the bankruptcy of me.

I'm working to get the hang of using manual lenses after a couple of decades of autofocus shooting. I'm also looking for a decent and CHEAP vintage lens to start dabbling in dark sky photos. Looking at a 28mm f2.8 for starters since you can get a vintage one for $50 or so... and then find another cheap prime in the 135 to 300mm range.... anyway, figure I can find plenty of information on all that here.

A few photos I've shot so far that I'm relatively happy with can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/84307396@N00/albums/72157671534280596

Cheers, Philo

Welcome!
K-5 user, check, I have one, I love it.
Old lens user, check, I have some from the film days, I use them, I love that the camera will take them.

Welcome to the clubhouse!

The K5 is a real workhorse. Mine has seen abuse which would likely have killed a lesser camera.

Wonderfest is a reunion weekend for me, and most of us I think.
I used to take a picture of every entry. That was grueling and processing 800+ images just got to be too much. So now I take a more selected set, and focus on the hardware side of things.

Which, theoretically, should leave more time for modeling. Somehow it doesn't....

Fully understand. Have friends who attend there every year. At least these days you don't have to reload after 24 photos.

Hi Philo - welcome to the forums! You found a K-5 at a yard sale?! Wow... the times are a-changin' Great catch - it's a superb camera (I still have mine and it gets regular use - in fact, I was playing with it today, coupled with a Helios 44m 58mm f/2)

Welcome to the forum, but the key thing is to enjoy the journey to bankruptcy.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome, pleasure to be here! And nice combo, Mike -- caught the international space station flying over with my Helios 44 58 f2 yesterday evening. I need to work on my dark sky skills, but 6 seconds shortly after sunset got me Saturn, Mars and a few stars in the constellation Scorpio....
