Hello

Hi everyone, I've been accessing this forum for reviews for a number of years now and thought I'd take the plunge and join in. I'm a student photographer studying for a diploma in photo imaging and am in my second year. I use a Pentax K-5 at the moment but saving for the new K-1. I live in Queensland Australia.

Welcome to the forums

G'day Erin,

Good to see another local jumping onboard.

The K5 is a great camera as is the K-1, you must have good taste.

Anyhoo, all the best with the studies.

Welcome Erin. Good luck with your course and saving for the K-1. Don't forget to budget for some good lenses too.

Hello Erin, and welcome to the forums - glad you decided to take the plunge and join us

How are you finding the diploma studies - is it an enjoyable syllabus? Looking back, I wish I'd known that I would find an interest in photography; I would have enjoyed studying it academically. What knowledge I have has been learned from very unstructured research online, the help of other members here, plus lots of trial and error!

Hi Big Mack Cam, study is very intense, each subject is like a crash course. I've done domestic portraiture, food, fashion, architecture, colour management, lighting, visual communication and a lot more. This term I'll be doing moving image. That's video with the K-5. A challenge as usual. When I look back at where I was even a year ago, I've come a long way, it's been really worthwhile. I feel more confident about attempting and achieving the kinds of images I want to now, but still have a long way to go.

^^^ That's great to hear, Erin. Whether you intend to use the qualification professionally, or merely as the foundation of a wonderful hobby, you'll be much better prepared than many photographers. Let us know how you progress, eh?
