Hello from the South West of England

I've been taking photos for decades. Firstly using Konica, then Contax and Yashica, then the original Olympus 4/3. Time to upgrade ready for a new grandchild so here I am having decided to come to Pentax. Those old Spotmatics were amazing...

Hello and welcome to the forums - great to have you with us

What a great motivation to upgrade. Are you looking to buy an APS-C or "full format" camera? Either way, we have members here with every model, new and old. I'm sure we can help to steer you if you haven't already decided on a specific camera and lens kit

Thanks for the welcomes. I chose a K50 kit. Fantastic viewfinder, excellent sensor, and a good enough kit lens. And all of it is WR, so no great worries about shooting on the beach etc. The sensor shift function is pretty neat too. As is the TAv mode: makes you wonder if you can use older lenses by choosing a and Av value, and let the camera work out the correct exposure and adjust the ISO value accordingly?

Congratulations on your K-50 kit. It's a very capable camera, and yes - as kit lenses go, it's more than good enough

You might want to read the following post which explains how to use older manual lenses on Pentax DSLRs:

That's the kit I started with as my first DSLR, I know you'll be very happy with it.

Welcome to the forums from an ex-pat Brit who started out with Spotmatics, in fact I had two of them (I still have my Spotmatic II but it it will never take a shot again as it's FUBAR'd now).
