Hello from Okinawa, Japan

I'm originally from the U.K. but have lived in Japan for the last 8 years. I work part time teaching English at Okinawa University, but spend the majority of my days working as a freelance travel writer and photographer.
I use the Pentax 67II system which is known as "Gulliver" in Japan due to its monsterous size. Please take a look at my website

Would love to get some feedback from other Pentax users, and if you're ever heading out to the land of the rising sun, come check out my little island!

Cheers

Chris

Wow, they are amazing shots!!

I found these images so appealing! I went to Japan up to 20 times so far and I failed to produce images as stunning as you did!! A difference between pro and amateur i guess

I had not visited Okinawa. I knew it is reknown for its bitter melon and sea salt! A cheaper option for Japanese people for overseas holidays!

Wow - Truly awe inspiring photos, love your work.

Welcome to the forum.

My limited knowledge of Okinawa comes from training in Okinawan Kobudo.

Have you any martial arts shots from Okinawa?

Karate Master

Here's a shot of 8th Dan Uechi Ryu Karate Master Kioyhide Shinjo, one of the toughest martial arts experts you could meet.
I interviewed him for a local magazine and came away feeling quite in awe and a little scared.

Thanks for he Martial arts photo.

The Kobudo club I belong to here in Perth is bringing out two 8th Dans from Okinawa later this year. Your photo sort of confirms what I have been told to expect when they come out - serious, no nonsense and full on martial arts training, and the look in the eyes of Master Kioyhide Shinjo pretty well sums that up.

Photography question - Will you be looking into the proposed 645D from Pentax or are you determined to remain with film?

Yes, I am looking forward to the Pentax 645 digital especially if it comes out with the Kodak 31 Megapixel sensor. I would love to use it with the huge 400mm I have for the 67 system and take photos of the cranes dancing in the snow in the very north of Japan.

Fuji!

Thanks for the comments, glad you like the site.
Here's one of my Fuji shots. It's normally hidden in the cloud but on a few clear days it's quite the thing to behold.
