new in the world of pentax

i'm a proud owner of a new K70 bundeld with the 18-135mm kit and a 50mm f/1.8
Since I bought this kit a month ago, I found a 400mm Soligor f/6.3 manual lens online to play around.

In the current world of easily offended people, I just want to say that my english isn't flawless and my DSLR history is exactly as old as my K70.
So, i'm probably gonna make mistakes somewhere in posts.

My camera history is very short: Fujifilm Finepix S1500. Handy, small, enough zoom, but outdated by mediocre smartphones.
In januari I used a Canon 1000d from a friend: it does it's job, but felt cheap en entry level.

About a half a year ago I (and my wife) decided that we wanted to make better photo's, but not on a smartphone. We both liked the grip of a dedicated camera in stead of smartphones of compacts. My job was months of investigation to buy the right camera.
Why Pentax? easy: IBIS, weather proof, twin dials, sturdy build, great stills quality, flip out screen, pentaprism, great low light performance. My conclusion was that the K70 is the best choice for our demands in its price range.
And personally I prefer products outside the mainstream canikony etc. and before i forget: from Holland, so I don't want to spend a whole lotta money!

I'm going to write reviews for my K70 and the three lenses.
Until now I can say the K70 feels incredible capable and is a charm to work with.

welcome to the forum

" I just want to say that my english isn't flawless and my DSLR history is exactly as old as my K70."

your English is fine.

I am one who has been accused of not using the English language well and I, like too many Americans, am clueless about learning a foreign language

if you haven't already, may I suggest you go to the top of the page and check out the tabs: "cameras", "lens", "accessories' and "articles" - lots of great info can be found there

eagerly awaiting your photographs

ask any question you wish [ I own the international copy rights on all stupid questions but I allow others to ask them if they wish without charge ]

there are a lot of people here eager to help you out.

Welcome to Pentax and to the forums. You've got a great package there; you almost don't need anything else!

On the other hand, these old lenses can be a lot of fun (if you don't get too carried away collecting them!), and if you get one in really good condition it can produce truly excellent results. Happy shootin!

Welcome from Chicago!
I had a work-related visit Holland (Naarden/Bussum) for a couple weeks almost 20 years ago. The time really does fly...
I enjoyed my time there, and would enjoy returning one of these years.

You have a solid starting point for a camera kit. You'll be able to figure out what else you might want to buy as you use these - but don't be in a hurry.

Hi from Australia pentaxbart. Welcome to the Pentax forums. I do not have a K-70, but I do have the 18-135 & 50 1.8 and think they are great lenses. If you think your English might get you into trouble, the emoji's are a very useful way to give the right feeling to your words. Good to have you here.

Welcome, and well done in selecting a superb starting kit. The DA18-135 is one of the best all-rounders going around, and a fast 50 is always a good idea

If you're looking to expand your lens collection, the DA35/2.4 is cheap, compact, and optically brilliant. An ultra-wide or fisheye might be the next step. Give your Soligor a good work-out before you think of another telephoto option, because good one's are definitely not cheap!

Oh yeah: as others have already said - your written English is better than many native speakers, and WAY better than my Dutch!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

About the next lens, probably it will be an ultra-wide with a minimum aperture of f/2.8 or lower so I can use it for some basic astrophotography.
The soligor is a lot about getting to know how to work with a manual lens. And i'm getting the hang of focussing by hand.
