By way of introduction. . .

Greetings, fellow Pentaxians.

I have been a forum lurker for about 6 months, as I fretfully pondered and eventually executed a complete switch from Canon system to Pentax K-1, and was also considering various lens options. Now that I’ve been up and running with Pentax system for a few months, I decided it was time to “jump in” to the fray. Probably like many here, I first became interested in photography during high-school, and after acquiring a Pentax ME Super (yeah, I’m old, I guess), began taking photos for the school yearbook and developing/printing B&W images in school darkroom. I then acquired a Bronica ETRs system (still got it – worth ~1/10’th of what I paid!) for doing some professional work during college years, taking portraits, group pictures, weddings, but after beginning an engineering career, I (to my great shame!) let my photography interests go dormant until about 2005 when I acquired the original Canon Rebel and started shooting scenic landscapes from around the US, but concentrating especially on rural areas in ND and WI, including a special fondness abandoned homesteads.

I have graduated through various levels of gear in the Canon line, ending with a 3Ti, prior to my recent upgrade (Dec 2016) to a Pentax K-1, after which I sold ALL my Canon gear and began building (rebuilding) a Pentax lens collection. My (partial list) of current Pentax-mount lenses includes a Rokinon 14mm, Pentax FA 20-35 (just acquired from Japan Ebay), Pentax FA 43mm limited (also just acquired via Ebay), Pentax 50mm (f1.7 and 2), Pentax DFA 28-105 ("kit" lens, but a good one!), Pentax M 200mm, Pentax FA 100 macro (WOW!), a couple telescopes (Meade 1250mm and 2000mm) that I use with camera at prime focus for some astro and even terrestrial shooting, and finally a Pentax FA 100-300 f4.7 zoom which I feel is grossly underrated - I acquired one for “rough and tumble” backpacking for all of $70 and it has blown me away – I will post a review with some pics later. Maybe I just got one with pixie dust inside, but compared to the Sigma APO 100-300 I used on my Canon, it is “no contest”. I love its light weight too - a lens which makes it "into the bag" is far more likely to deliver the pic's, and I like to travel LIGHT (usually with max 3-4 lenses).

My “modus operandi” is to strap my LowePro sling bag (highly recommended) on my back, jump on my Yamaha FJR1300 motorcycle at around sunset, and randomly ride the country back-roads in search of magic golden-hour lighting of picturesque local/rural scenes.

Most of my existing portfolio was shot with a Canon T3i system, but more recent images (from Dec 2016 onward) are acquired with Pentax K-1 full-frame DSLR. I’ve found the K-1 to have astounding dynamic range and low-light capabilities and looks forward to stretching my work in that direction, including night scenes, astro-scenics, and long exposure methods.

If you made it this far, sorry for the “text wall”, and looking forward to being a more active forum member! And a SINCERE THANK YOU to all the contributors who have made for many many hours of interesting reading/research that facilitated my "return home" to Pentax!

Peter

P.S. - A "selfie" below is taken with the K-1 and the 14mm Rokinon (30 sec exposure) at outskirts of local city (skyglow in background).

Good to have you here. By the way, to be considered "old" you have to have started with an S series or earlier Pentax.

Welcome to the club! You're off to a great start.
I like my FA100 f2.8, it's a great performer.
