You have a new friend in Paris France

Hi all,

i live in Paris and i do photography as a hobby.
My gear : K3 + lens : 18-55, 70, 35, 50 (Pentax), + 70-300 (Tamron)

I mostly take portraits in a studio. I just starded outdoor portrait and i still need to find the good parameters so i get the best sharpness.

i really hope someone can help me here!

regards
Philippe

With the DA 70mm limited? Reviews say it is a sharp lens! Usually lens has optimal sharpness one or two stops down, in this case f4-f5.6.
You can take photo at f2.8 and then use something like Lightroom, RawTherapee, NikEffects, Topaz to sharpen the eyes and lips.
Outdoor photographers often have assistant with reflectors

Outdoors it's more about maximizing your DOF much of the time. Stop those lenses down to around f8 and you won't have any troubles with sharpness. The 35 and 70 have formidable reputations in that regard. If you can stage your shot, you may get by with wider aperture.

Thank you so much for your advices. It is true that i have heard about optimal sharpness at F4, F5.6 F8.
As i am not really in the technical stuff, i need to improve my gear knowledge ...
it is when i am feeling i need to learn a bit more about how things work that i open technical books.

i realise that i lose time and that i would make better pictures if i get more into the "science of photography"... i feel i am progessing so ...it is fine for me
I don't get mad if my pictures are not sharp enough

Thank you for your warm welcome

Please don't feel you're wasting our time by asking questions. That's why we're here - to learn and pass along information.

You'll find through looking at others' work, and by playing with your gear how to use it best. All decisions are compromises, and you'll learn that balance through experience. Sometimes it's better to ask when you see a photo you like than try to learn from books. Really, it's both.
