Hello From North Carolina

My name is Tim and while I have owned a K-x for many years now I just have never taken photography seriously. That is why I'm here, to learn what equipment I may need for the direction I want to go. I am looking at the K-5 IIS, K-3 and k-3 II. Right now I will be more into landscapes and portraits but eventually would like to get into Astrophotography. Any suggestions to get me started would be greatly appreciated. I will say I am looking at getting a Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 Ex DC HSM lens.

I have the K-3II and K-5IIs. Both can do astrophotography, the K-5IIs requiring the Pentax O-GPS1 unit and the K-3II having the GPS built in. They both take excellent images. They both are capable of landscape and portrait photography. The lens you mentioned may be a good choice for your interests. I myself have a Pentax 16-85.
