Hello from TN

Hey everyone! I'm a commercial food and beverage photographer based out of Nashville, TN. I have worked as a photographer for the last decade. I started my career in photojournalism, and then moved into the commercial world. I have done everything in the industry from being a photo assistant, a DIT, and was the lead still life photographer for a major retailer. Currently I work with restaurants, magazines and national brands to create compelling visual imagery that creates value for my client and evokes emotion in the buyer.

I am currently debating adding a Pentax 645 Z and potentially a 645D to my kit. I am trying to decide which lenses will best fit my shooting style. I'm considering the 55mm DFA or 75mm FA and the 120mm FA. My biggest question is how does the 55mm perform vs the 75mm? I also have some debate between the 90mm and the 120mm. I generally like the compression offered by longer lenses for shooting food so it kind of rules out the 90mm, but I hear the 90mm is a better lens. Thoughts?

Welcome aboard, why not hire and give 'em both a road test.

I've never understood renting lenses. If you buy a used lens, and pay a fair price for it, you can usually sell it in a month or two for what you paid for it, plus or minus a little. "Renting" lenses this way is completely free assuming you have the capital for it.

My reason for renting is the cost savings

I rented a 150 - 450 zoom at a fraction of buying even a used one

If I had bought one, then tried to sell it how much would I had gotten back and what if I couldn't sell it

MHO, YMMV

Thanks for the warm welcome! I purchased the 645Z a few days after my last post. I currently have the 75mm FA lens and have a 120mm FA lens on the way. So far I am really satisfied with the performance of both the camera and the lens. I shot a cook book with this combo last week and the page layouts look awesome.
