Hello

Hi, I'm Nick from NY.

I got into photography in late 2008 and my first DSLR was a K10D. I jumped into Canon in 2011 doing some paid work and around 2013 I gave up my passion as I got divorced and fell into some depression. I want to get back into it again but just as a hobby and family photos. I just want one full frame body and maybe a few prime lenses. I had my eye on the 6D or 6Dmii but after seeing the K1 I am pretty torn. If I bought the K1 I would buy the 50mm DA 1.8 to start or the Canon 50mm 1.8 if I go with Canon. I don’t want to go crazy with money like I did in the past but I def want FF and a few primes. I've owned the K10D, K20D, 20D, 7D , 5D ii , 5D iii Help me out here guys. I also heard Pentax rumors about pentax being in trouble and not producing anymore new equipment. is this true?

Rumors are unfounded. Pentax recently released the KP, Ricoh is releasing new versions of other cameras like the Theta. New lenses hit the market - and refreshed old ones with new butt-kicking focus motors...and unlike some other companies, new sensors festoon new models.

If you like the system, Pentax has a lot to offer. Not as much super-long zooms and professional support, though. If you like using manual lenses, Pentax is really well-designed.

There are a good number of full-frame lenses available, and the crop mode supports DA, and operates about as quickly as the crop flagship in that mode.

So, it depends on what you want to do. If you're shooting sports as a business I'd look elsewhere. If you're a hobbyist, come on back into the fold.

Welcome to the forums. From what you have said, it looks like Pentax can satisfy your needs for camera/lens equipment.

Welcome back! There's always been rumors of Pentax being doomed, then they release an award winning camera. You will not be disappointed with the K1, especially for family and hobby use. Since you've already owned the K10 and K20, you know how user friendly they are.

Check out what other forum members have done and enjoy!
