Just got my K5

Hello all,

After shooting with an analog Canon AE-1 for years and several (Samsung and Canon) compact digital cameras, I wanted a SLR again and for convenience and because we are in the 21st century, a DSLR.

So I compared starting with Canon, but quickly found (also with the help of this forum) the Pentax line. The K5 was exactly my balance between reasonable prices of used cameras and features. It arrived a few days ago and I am very very happy

I am looking forward to posting some photos soon,

cheers, Steffen

Welcome to the forums! I use to shoot with the AE1 years ago. I made the switch when the K10 D came out, I've been very pleased with the decision and I'm sure you will too, the K5 is still an amazing camera.

Thanks for the warm welcome. And apparently the sun never sets in Pentaxland

@twilhelm the AE-1 is a great camera indeed. I was a little sad to find out ( in some other thread) that image quality suffers greatly when using an FD -> K converter... Do you have experiences with that?

From personal experience, just don't do it. With the AE-1, I was always very pleased with image quality from FD lenses. With them adapted I suddenly became very disappointed. Even my FD 85 f/1.2 didn't stack up to a kit lens.

Hi Steffen and welcome to the Pentax forum! I found myself in your shoes as well and purchased a used K-3 which is a very able camera that yields amazing quality images. I sold an Oly mirrorless and a couple of lenses to go back to the DSLR world. Am selling the K-3 now with the anticipation of purchasing a Fuji X100F and in the future a K-1 to get into full frame. No complaints on the K-3 though, it's an amazing camera.

Used K5s are an amazing value. They're built like tanks so you can have plenty of confidence it will keep providing quality results for a long time.

Welcome! I have the K-5 IIs and its a great camera. The k-5 series in general is just amazing. The button layout is by far my favorite of any of the pentax cameras, and it just makes sense. Not to mention that beefy sensor as well. Glad to have you here and can't wait to see what images you take!

Wow, what can I say...

After a few weeks I just can't leave home without the camera. It is so much fun!!

I got a couple of lenses, my favourites being the (rebranded?) Pentax 28-200 (it does a little bit of everything: wide, tele, macro) and an inexpensive Revuenon 50/1.7 fixed lens (also for macro with extension tubes), which gives me the analogue feeling.

But I also enjoy the 18-55 WR that came with the camera, and the 55-300 WR whenever I want to shoot the moon or birds etc.

I will just post a photo I took of a good friend of mine here and put some more in the respective threads/forums (macro, pinhole, K-5, ...).

See you there.

Nothing wrong with a K-5, not at all. Enjoy it!
