Thanks to PentaxForums

Hello All!

A few days ago I decided to get back into a hobby I had 40 years ago and started researching DSLR cameras that may work with some very old lenses I had with my Pentax SP1000 from the 1970's. I found this forum and some helpful insight from the members here, very glad I did!

I am pensively awaiting the delivery of my New Pentax k-70 camera!

Thanks all for your assistance, I anticipate I will be here often!

Old lenses are great fun and your perspective isn't skewed by modern declarations of what a lens 'should' do. Hope we don't contaminate you.

Welcome, and enjoy!

Welcome, neighbour!

Yes, your 'old' lenses should work well on the K-70. If you want to try Takumar lenses, for example, you may know that you will need an adapter to mount the M42 screwmount lenses to the K-mount of the K-70. Various adapters exist; many users tend to prefer the original Pentax adapter. You can read reviews and further information on the Pentak Adapter K at: https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/Pentax-Mount-Adapter-K-M42-Screwmount.html

Welcome to the forums! The K-70 will make you enjoy your photography again, I'm sure!

If you want to recreate the experience of shooting with a normal prime lens, the SMC Pentax DA 35mm f/2.4 is inexpensive and the focal length on APS-C (which is what the K-70 is) falls between the 50mm and 55mm focal length of the standard primes of the 70s

Thanks to All!

Thanks for the welcome comments! Coupled with my K-70, I included the DA 18-135mm lens, I think it should be a good walking around lens. Now for what may be an extensive learning curve discovering the world of digital photography!

I have both a K-500 and a K-70. You will really enjoy the capability of the K-70.

Having both cameras, I opted to use my K-500 with inexpensive yet excellent quality M42 prime lenses that are available.

I will definitely agree with other posters who recommended the Pentax branded K- mount to M42 adapter. They are pricey compared to the Chinese adapters, but well worth the money. They can be hard to find. If you find any in the $35 range grab it. Many go for $50 and up.

I will be glad to help with any questions you have. I've had my K-70 for over a year and am still learning new things.

Have fun and welcome to the forums.

Bob
