Hello from Ottawa, Canada

Hey folks,

I've been lurking here for several years and have finally decided to decloak and say hello.

My Pentax journey started some time ago with a Pentax K1000 which served me well for numerous years before I moved into the digital realm with a Nikon Coolpix 990. The arrival of the *ist D prompted me to jump back into the Pentax fold and start rediscovering my small collection of Pentax lenses. The *ist D was finally retired for a K7 which in turn has been put on the shelf now that I have acquired a K3ii. In addition to my "serious" camera I have an "always with me kit" that currently consists of an iPhone and my trusty Panasonic ZS7. (I really need to replace that ZS7 but it has traveled around the world, I know it well and I have performed surgery on it twice to clean out debris that it has collected.)

I have resided in Ontario, Canada for my entire life, growing up in a little town called Whitney (where "normhead" currently resides). I studied Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo and have worked in Ottawa for the better part of 25 years designing optical telecommunications equipment and wishing I had more time to take pictures.

Thanks
Chris

Welcome!

It's fun to see another fellow with experience in optics/telecom! I'm guessing you've worked for Nortel/Ciena then? As have about half the people in optics near Ottawa?

Hey, welcome another Brown from Whitney. You forgot to mention your family is Whitney Royalty of sorts. MY mechanic is a Brown, one of our town councillors is a Brown. Tess and I have sort of been adopted by Paul, Leona and Ethel Stubbs so that's where we have learned to "fit in."

The mechanic is my brother, the councilor is my uncle, my cousin is the clerk/treasurer, my aunt is the mayor and I'm reasonably sure that "royalty" is not how most people in Whitney would refer to the Browns

I've been quite enjoying your numerous photos of area especially your "Dull day along the Madawaska" series. My son and I go fishing with my Dad at least twice a summer in Rapid Bay

Yes, I'm one of the ex-Nortel optical folks that got picked up by Ciena during the Nortel bankruptcy fire sale.Given how big BNR/Nortel got before the fall, there really is a very high percentage of people over a certain age that worked either at BNR or Nortel at some point in their career!

It was an easy guess...

I've worked at Exfo for 5 years in Quebec city before moving to another other optics company (not telecom this time).
