Yet another Australian

Hi all,

My name is Andrew and I am a teacher from Western Australia.

I bought my first digital camera in 2002. I can't remember the model number but it was a Pentax with 2 megapixels and a flip out screen. That did my until I bought a Canon ISUX 60 in 2006. Since I began noticing how incredibly good the photographs taken with DSLRs were and that they were now within my price range I started to look into them.

After considering, researching and testing a few cameras including the Canon 400D and 450D, Nikon D40, D60 and D80, Olympus E-410, E-420, E-510, E-520 and Sony Alpha a200. I was swung toward a Pentax K200D.

I liked the feel of quality and read some great reviews. In the end the clincher was the feel of the camera in my hand. The Nikon D40 felt light but was a bit small in my huge hands, the Sony was very plastic feeling. The K200D felt reassuringly heavy, and all the controls seemed to fall to my fingers.

I have only the kit lens at the moment but from reading discussion here want to get the F1.4 prime and an 18-250 zoom.

G'day Andrew.
Love your side of the continent.

Congrats on the purchase - you'll find it a steep learning curve for some time, so get out there and shoot! A definite vote from me to get the FA50/1.4 - it's probably THE lens to get to exploit full capability and creativity of your cam.

I always want to rephotograph the wave rock and wild flowers in September there. Perth has the best fish market that I really like.

Welcome to the forum!
