Hi from West Australia

Hi everyone!
I recently bought a secondhand Pentax K30, I thought it a good starting point while I learn photography.
I look forward to learning from others about my camera, and how to take better photos.
Thanks.

Welcome! I bought Pentax 'to learn on' and now I am on my third body. LOL!

If you need guidance on lenses or where to start in that area or want to solicit tips to make your shots better....the only rule is 'don't be shy'.

Welcome, and you should get a lot of mileage out of that K30. I have the K50 which is basically the same camera, and have no complaints about it whatsoever.

Unfortunately I think the person who owned my camera before me already did the mileage. A lot of dirt on the inside, and Manual works when it feels like it haha. But I have been persisting, dreaming of my next (new) Pentax! I had the sensor cleaned but seemed to just shift the muck around. A friend also gave it a few cleans but still muck and unfortunately sitting centre of each photo. I love photography so this issue won't deter me.

welcome

lots of friendly members here willing to assist you with any questions you might have

especially if you are looking for advice on how to spend your money

perhaps these charts might be of help should you decide to invest in equipment now or in the future

Pentax Lens Compatibility Chart
Copyright 2006-2016 Mosphotos.com. All rights reserved.

Pentax bayonet lenses labeled "SMC Pentax" are referred to as "K" lenses in the table below. Other Pentax bayonet lenses have the lens designation as a part of their name as in "SMC Pentax-FA."

Note that "star" lenses work like their "non-star" counterparts: DA* lenses work like DA lenses, FA* like FA, F* like F, A* like A, and M* like M.
Exceptions: Exceptions: FA and F "soft" lenses behave like M lenses in terms of metering.

Pentax K-Mount Lens Series Explained: The differences between various Pentax lens series

In a nutshell

There are several series of Pentax K-mount lenses; the ones currently being produced include the DA (digital), DA L (cheap digital kit), D FA (full-frame, digital optimized), and FA (full-frame) series. While all Pentax K-mount lenses ever produced are compatible with all current Pentax DSLRs (in some cases with restrictions in that not all exposure modes of the camera are supported by old lenses), there are significant differences between each lens series and each has different features. Furthermore some of the newer lenses do not work with older cameras. We'll be exploring the differences between the various K-mount series lenses in this article. Read more about specific K-mount lens/camera compatibility here.

The DLSR designation below encompasses the mirror-less K-01.
