Hi all! Also, a mysterious primotar!

Greetings!

Long time lurker. I value the opinions and reviews of all users within this site. Through their (indirect) advice I have purchased quite a few SMC Takumars, which are now permanently affixed to my Fuji X-T2.

I come today to show a recent acquisition, which I can find no trace of existing online. Behold - the Meyer Optik Primotar 50mm f2.7 Red V.

M39 mount, but there's an additional metal spacer ring which unscrews from the rest of the lens. It appears this is part of the overall construction though, as I have full range of focus with the ring on.

Maybe a shot with the ring removed? Interesting. Oh and welcome!

Welcome

Welcome to the group. Interesting old lens, have you tried posting about it at mflenses.com?

That looks interesting. I haven’t seen any of those yet, and I’ve seen a lot of East German lenses. Is it a c-mount lens by any chance? Does it have vignetting on APS-C?

One of my rarest finds was a Primotar 85/3.5. I found it on the flea market, together with an ISCO 35/3.5.

Hi all,

M39 actually. No vignetting on APS-C. I've been swamped with work, but I took tomorrow off. Weather permitting, I will take it out in the morning.

I think the old manual lenses often have great glass. The biggest advantage for photographers is they force you to take your time and get your exposure correct. It always makes a difference.

That's such a gorgeous lens that would be just as great as a display piece or composed as part of a still life!
