Here to learn. I haven't purchased any gear yet, looking to get started! A co-worker has steered me towards Pentax and this forum. Looking forward to perusing the threads and possibly picking up some quality used gear. I welcome thoughts and opinions on budget options to get rolling!

Looks like I showed up with perfect timing!

What prompted my renewed interest in photography? Well, My wife and I are expecting in a couple months. We want to be able to capture moments with better quality than a smartphone. We also would like to attempt to do our own portraits. With an ability to take good photos at little league baseball/football games etc.

I have been researching for several weeks. I think I'm more confused now than I was when I started. So many options.

Thanks for the heads up! I've done some cruising around in there. Seems to be some reasonable deals. Still trying to figure out the nomenclature and lens ratings. Probably seems trivial to most but I haven't really dug into any photography related material since high school. Quite the learning curve.

Welcome to the forum. The great deals are in used equipment, that's for sure; i got 95% of mine buyed used. For a body, my advice is to not go older than the K-5. The "plastic fantastic" lenses; DA50 f1.8 and DA35 f2.4 are to be considered as low-budget bang for the buck primes. As a standard zoom, try to avoid 18-55mm, 16-45mm f4 is already a better choice, and if you have some dough, get your hands on the 16-85mm. Bye.

I'll have to check out the 16-85mm. I haven't seen much on that lens. Thanks for the pointers!
