Hi from Houston, Texas

Hello,

I'm Phil in Houston, Texas. I bought my first SLR, a Pentax H1a with a 55mm f2 lens, in the summer of 1968. I carried that camera daily through college as well as backpacking trips in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Alaska. The camera was used and finally quit working in 1980, I replaced it with a new K1000 which I still have and use now. I also have 3 Spotmatic bodies and Takumar lenses from 28mm to 300mm, Although I have other film and digital cameras, I enjoy using my Pentax equipment often.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums, I joined this year also. Mountains of info and advice here. I bought my first car in 1968, a brand new Volkswagon Bug. I liked it almost as much as I like taking pictures!

Welcome to the forum! How are the beaches around Galveston? I live in the DFW area, but have never been down there. Can you recommend some nice areas for photography and surf fishing on the coast near Houston?

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I neglected to list a new acquisition, a Pentax SV delivered a couple of weeks ago. The package included the 'add on' light meter and a nice 50mm f1.4 lens.

@chazthebiker I'm looking forward to the annual Redfish run this September and October. I hope I can make time for fishing, plus the shorebirds and sunsets. Cameras are always close by while fishing or hunting. There are a couple of wildlife refuges within an hour or two, as well Brazos Bend State Park which has varied wildlife and wetlands to explore. Check out Bolivar Peninsula, a short ferry ride from Galveston Island. Bird Watching
