Hi everybody. My name is Bart and I live in St. Louis, MO (USA).

You could say that I've been a Pentaxian since the mid 1990s, since I used to shoot with a Pentax 67 (which I still have). Unfortunately I haven't used the 67 in several years, but I mean to use it this fall. My 35mm film shooting has been with Nikon and Contax/Yashica, and my current digital body is a Nikon D7100. I will be getting a full frame camera soon (I think) and have an open mind, so I'm not necessarily sticking with Nikon. At this point I'm strongly considering either a Pentax K-1 or Sony a7RII. The K-1 would require buying new lenses (and that's a bit of an issue), while with a Sony and an adapter I could use my old Zeiss lenses from my Contax.

So, I'm doing a lot of research on the Pentax forum and else ware. My lens needs are simple to start with - 2 primes: a wide angle (something in the 24mm to 35mm range), and a short telephoto/macro (so I'm looking seriously at the Pentax 100mm macro).

If any K-1 users would like to share their thoughts about the camera and lenses they use, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks very much,

Bart Hovis

G'day! I'm guessin' you're an Aussie I had an Aussie roommate for a year in college (in the USA) - quite a guy, I learned some interesting slang and bawdy drinking songs

The 67 is indeed a gift. Its' detail, smooth gradations of color and overall beauty of rendering is what I'm striving to achieve in digital (of course that large negative is part of the equation).

Bart, are your Zeiss lenses screwmount? They may work on a K-1 withan M42 adapter.

That looks great, but unfortunately they are not screwmount - mid 1990s bayonet mount for Contax camera, which I recently put a roll of film in for the first time in many years. I'm gonna use those lenses one way or another

Welcome. I use the 100mm 2.8 Wr for a lot of my macro. Pretty nice lens. The WR is handy. For example I pretty much used this lens mostly when I did an engagement shoot in the rain. I’ll try to post some samples of the macro tomorrow.

I'd like to see some of your shots! The 100mm macro would be the first lens I buy. Second would be the 31mm limited.

Would Leitax have a mount that would do the conversion?

Here are some. All 3 are focused stacked and used a speedlite with a diffuser. I have more on my instagram.
Most of the macro on there are all from the 100mm. (Mantis head and the shrimp eggs are from a different lens)

Thanks - I was not aware of that mount. It looks like a great option, but for now I'm going to keep those lenses usable on the Contax for film.

Thanks, everyone, for the welcomes and advice!

I ordered a K-1 and 100mm macro lens. I will add a wider lens when I recover from the financial trauma.

This forum (and its good people) have been very helpful in my research and ultimate decision.
