New to the Forum from Arizona

Greetings Ė new member here from sunny Arizona. After using Pentax 35mm gear since the mid-1980ís (mostly an ME Super SE), Iíve decided to finally take the plunge into the DSLR world. I also have a pretty nice darkroom setup, but itís mostly just been taking up space in my closet in recent years, as the papers and chemicals I liked to use all disappeared from the shelves. So, I thought it was time to take the plunge and go digital. Decided to stick with Pentax based on good prior experience, plus the chance to continue to use some of the K-mount lenses that have served me well in the past.

Patientally waiting on the arrival of a new K-70 w/ 18-135mm zoom thatís on its way. I also couldnít resist the urge to order a used Pentax 15mm F/4 SMC DA ED AL Limited lens. I have read so much about it here Ė really looking forward to trying it out!

Welcome to the Forum and digital in general. The K70 is an excellent camera which provides a tremendous set of capabilities. Your darkroom is going to migrate to LightRoom.....

Thank you all for the welcomes!

Looking forward to getting my hands on the K-70 and learning more about its capabilities - definitely a lot more on-camera settings/options than I am used to. I noticed interested_observer mentioned LightRoom - and see it mentioned on the forums pretty frequently. Is that the preferred way to go for most people as far as RAW editing? I'm working on a Mac - have been using Pixelmator for some occasional, casual editing in the past, but it doesn't work directly with RAW files. There is a newer "Pixelmator Pro" that is out that claims it will - haven't tried it yet, but may give it a shot to see if it's usable. I also downloaded "Digital Camera Utility 5", so at least I'll have something to work with at the start.

Welcome to the Forum from Australia - but I graduated from U of A half a lifetime ago and have very fond memories of a year or so in Arizona. You are just overloaded with great photo opportunities there!!

I went to High school in Buckeye for a year ! My dad taught school in Liberty..... Small world.
I was just in Buckeye last week out at Gilespie Dam on old highway 85 getting a few shots. Not a lot has changed in town , but Avondale is un-recognizeable now from what it was 25 years ago.

ASU is where I took my first Photography courses 30 years ago. You are right.....between Arizona and Utah there is a lifetime of photography opportunities.
