Originally posted by GiBi I'm looking for a slightly cheaper zoom pair (second hand gear), something that allows to cover family events and casual photography. Then, down the road, I'd save some bucks to get a couple of reasonable primes.
What about the Sigma 24-60 f2.8? Maybe that plus the DA* 60-250?
Just be aware that unless you modify the DA*60-250 you're going to be dealing with vignetting corners, and it's focus breathing for small close objects is atrocious. 250mm at 10 feet away is more like 135mm. I love mine, but it has limitations.(Also the person who mentioned slow focussing was bang on.)
The Sigma I have no experience with. Were you talking about the 24-70?

You'll note, as camera bodies get newer, and sensors improve the sharpness rating goes down. It might be a trend. Let's not project those ratings from 2012 to 2018. They might be rather dismal. I'd suspect this is a lens that was designed for current sensors (2011) and hasn't held up all that well. But as i said, I have no personal experience with the lens.
