Hello from US-Washington!

Hi everyone,

I just registered for an account and am excited to start shooting with Pentax! Truth be told, I had just found this forum today and decided from a lot of the reviews/articles that I'd move over from Nikon-land and audio-land

My previous experiences were from an old Nikon D70 as well as a Nikon D3000 (which I used during my photography courses back in college). As I've just recently sold both and have some change, I've got my eye on a Pentax K-3 to start out and hope to acquire one sooner than later.

- Austin

welcome to the forums

some of us love to give opinions on how you could spend your money

and the K 3 family is well respected:

Pentax K-3 vs. Pentax K-3 II - Pentax Camera Comparison - PentaxForums.com

did you know that you can sort the market place [ " buy/sell " ] by country where the equipment is located ?

The Pentax Marketplace | Buy & Sell Pentax Cameras and Lenses (United States) - PentaxForums.com

personally I have had nothing but good luck in dealing with fellow members who were selling equipment in the forum's market place

Welcome to the club. Used options in the Marketplace are the best way to get into the Pentax ecosystem.

Hi Austin,

Welcome!

Are you from Washington State (vice D.C.)?

I live in Bremerton, maybe we can meet up and shoot sometime?

Welcome Austin,
The K-3 is a great choice, esp. if you find a good deal.

Hello! I am actually located closer to the Pacific Northwest, in the Eastern Washington area. If I ever visit DC however, I will greatly consider your offer.

At this stage, I think I'll take all the help I can get and I'll definitely check out the marketplace.

Thank you to all for the warm welcome - as of next week, I will be an owner of a Pentax K-3 with a 17-50mm Tamron as a starting lens. As a fun fact, before I had decided to shoot with Pentax, I actually found an older SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 in pristine condition while accompanying a friend at a thrift store. You'll never believe the price - $4! It must be destiny.

This is really telling of my understanding of Washington geography - I'd love to meet up to shoot when I'm closer to the West Side. I'll private message you to let you know more details!

Another Washington-resident! Know any Pentax-specific photography groups in your area?

Not quite true - at least there used to be some active Seatlleites in the forum, e.g. see the user map or alan_smithee_photos - View Profile - PentaxForums.com for some excellent photography. If you're interested in a spontaneous meet in the next few days, I'll be around as well. PM if you're interested (e.g. try some gear), I'll be flying tomorrow.
