New Pentax-er here!

Good evening everyone, Jinx here! Years ago when I was in high school I fancied myself a amateur photographer with my forgettable Fuji camera. Unfortunately it got stolen somehow and I kind of lost my passion as it had been a Christmas present. I feel like I have to relearn everything that I lost over a decade ago so I am all ears.. but let's just be honest I probably didn't know anything at 14-17 years old (90% sure I shot in auto most of the time).

On a whim I was browsing the facebook market place a few nights ago and saw a K-7 with two lenses (SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 and
SMC Pentax-DA 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 ED AL [IF]) for sale for $250 CAD and I jumped into research mode because it was within my budget and looked like a solid camera, I checked it out in person today and was pretty impressed with the condition (there's a few body dings but otherwise it's good). Unfortunately it is third hand now but the shutter count is a few hundred less than 12k, which I am quite pleased with.

So I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself here now that I'm one of you! If you have any tips for the K-7 or either of the lenses I would love to hear it. I know it's an older set up but I feel the price was very very right, considering the cost of just the lenses alone..

Until next time,

Another 'Hi' from Australia. Those two lenses alone are worth the money. Sounds like you got a good deal.

Welcome to the clubhouse! Sounds like a good deal - the 50 definitely is a cracking lens, and the zoom should be a good allrounder.

With the K-7 you probably don't want to go too high on the ISO, but you'll just have to try out for yourself to figure out where the limit is.

I usually lock the ISO (at the lowest I can get away with), shoot in Av mode to have control of the depth of field, and let the camera pick the shutter speed.

There is no right or wrong way to use a camera, though. Whether you want to shoot all manual or fully automatic - or somewhere in between - the main thing is to enjoy photography.

The k7 is a decent camera and the package you bought is well worth it.
Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for all the welcomes!

I plan on reading the manual, downloaded the pdf so I can get a handle on the camera properly. Hope to see you all around!
