New Japanese K1000 owner to be

Hi Everyone,
I'm finally buying a Japanese K1000. They were mythical when I was studying film photography. So I'm pretty excited. But I don't know which 35mm lens to buy. It needs to be fast, so preferably, f/2.0, f/1.8 or f/1.4. I would be very grateful for some advice. Thanks in advance. PT

I think the M 35mm F2 might be the perfect fit then:

SMC Pentax-M 35mm F2 Reviews - M Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

If you want F1.4, you could also get the moderm Samyang 35mm F1.4.

I canít tell whether you mean 35mm focal length or 35mm film format, so on the basis of the latter, for a standard field of view on 35mm then any of the SMC ĎKí, SMC-M or SMC-A 50 mm f1.4 will give you speed and a terrific lens. If you meant 35mm focal length then Adamís recommendation is sound.

Also you could get the KM instead of the K1000, as itís identical except that it has a depth of field preview button and a self-timer...

Welcome to the forum!

If you have the original 1976 MIJ K1000, then the correct "kit" lens is the K55/2. If you have/or are looking for the correct K1000 manual, it has that combo shown on the front cover.

Happy shooting and post your shots in the film forum.

Phil.

I have an MIJ version and it came with a 50mm f2. Given the camera was still in its original case with manuals and looked like it had seldom been used I assumed the lens was as supplied. Might have been a UK thing though. Its a nice camera but I prefer the KX for the better viewfinder and faster reacting light meter.

Correct, the MIJ K1000 was in production longer than the K55/2. The K55/2 was then replaced with the M50/2 as the "kit" lens.

The K1000 & K55/2 combo was only around for a year or so.
